My sorrow

found him in the shadows that grow longer with the passing day,

Often in sunlight too, streaming through the windows.

Sometimes in the sparkle of a crystal, so pure and bright,

Or in the bustling street, glowing in the afternoon light.

I fooled myself thinking that I lost him as I sat in the café one eve,

Surely, there he was, at the tip of my coffee spoon,

Spilling in the music from the street nearby…

I knew then I could not rid myself of him,

And so, he grew and grew, swelling inside me till my heart could burst.
